About Musist

One browsable window onto the world's museums.

What it is

Musist pulls public collections from several major institutions into a single feed, so you can browse across them at once instead of hopping between separate museum sites. Everything here is drawn live from each museum's own open collections.

Where the art comes from

The feed federates 3 sources: The Met, Rijksmuseum, and Smithsonian. Each source is queried independently — if one is slow or unavailable, the others still load, so the page degrades gracefully rather than breaking.

Wander & Surprise me

Wanderstarts a serendipitous trail: from any object it hops to related works — often across institutions — and keeps a breadcrumb of where you've been. Surprise me(in the menu) skips straight to a single random object's detail page.

Deep-zoom & rights

Where a museum exposes a IIIF image, you can pinch and scroll to deep-zoom into the artwork at full resolution. Public-domain works are badged as such and can be downloaded directly; everything else links back to its source institution.
